Thermochromic labels and liquid crystals

Materials that change colour in response to heat or cold — from strips for the textile industry and promotional and educational labels to thermochromic inks and pastes for your own applications.

Practical applications

Thermochromic materials for printing, warnings and visualisation

Thermochromic labels change colour in response to heat or cold. They can indicate when a drink is chilled, warn of a hot surface or create a visual effect on packaging and printed designs.

Packaging and beverages

Labels that show when a product is chilled, and interactive packaging elements.

Printing and textiles

Thermochromic printing, screen printing, laminating, bonding and heat setting.

Research and education

Heat distribution visualisation, experiments and non-destructive surface testing.

Thermochromic labels, sheets and materials that change colour with temperature
Example application — the choice of solution depends on the product, threshold and process conditions.

Heat- and Cold-Activated Thermochromic Labels | LC KOLOR

Thermochromic materials change colour when heated or cooled. They are used as information labels, hot-surface warnings and chilled-drink indicators, as well as in packaging, printed designs, research and educational demonstrations.

The range includes ready-made heat- or cold-activated labels and liquid crystal sheets for visualising temperature distribution. Thermostrip DC is designed for process monitoring in the textile industry, while paints, pigments and inks are covered on a separate product range page.

Thermostrip DC — Temperature indicator strips for textile drying and curing · 37–290 °C

Thermostrip DC

Temperature indicator strips for textile drying and curing · 37–290 °C

How it works

Self-adhesive strips developed for the textile industry. Each strip has 5 fields that permanently change from silver to black when their threshold is reached, leaving an irreversible record of the highest temperature. For monitoring bonding, laminating, heat setting, screen printing and UV ink curing.

Application and use

For monitoring process temperatures during textile drying, bonding, laminating and heat setting. Apply the label or sheet to a clean surface, after checking adhesion and the visibility of the colour change under the intended operating conditions.

  • 5 temperature thresholds on one strip
  • 8 temperature range sets available (Set 1–8)
  • Permanent colour change: silver → black
  • Resistant to oil, water and steam; °C and °F scales
  • For dry applications

Frequently asked questions

What is Thermostrip DC best suited to?

For monitoring process temperatures during textile drying, bonding, laminating and heat setting.

How do I select the right Thermostrip DC?

Specify the activation temperature, required colour change, substrate, dimensions, lighting conditions and humidity level. Key features of this solution include 5 temperature thresholds on one strip and 8 temperature range sets available (set 1–8).

Cold-activated labels — Print that appears when cooled

Cold-activated labels

Print that appears when cooled

How it works

Thermochromic labels and stickers that reveal an image or text when the product is chilled. Used to indicate when a drink is ready to consume, and for promotional and labelling applications.

Application and use

For packaging and beverages where graphics need to appear once the product is sufficiently chilled. Apply the label or sheet to a clean surface, after checking adhesion and the visibility of the colour change under the intended operating conditions.

  • Colour responds to falling temperature
  • Reversible colour change for repeated use
  • Custom-printed versions available
  • Applications: beverages, packaging, marketing

Questions to consider before choosing

Frequently asked questions

How do thermochromic labels work?

The material in the label changes colour when a specific temperature threshold is crossed. Depending on the design, the response is triggered by heating or cooling.

Can I order thermochromic printing for my own product?

Yes, the materials and activation threshold can be selected to suit the application. Selection requires information about the substrate, printing method, activation temperature and operating conditions.
